Zapworks
During this workshop, we were tasked to create an AR Zapworks project. I followed the tutorial provided and was able to get the 3D model working when scanning the QR code.
Once I had uploaded the build, I scanned the QR code using my phone and it took me to the designated website. With the trigger image on my screen, I aimed the camera at the image and the 3D model came up on my screen.
Reflection
I enjoyed experimenting with AR and seeing the 3D model come to life. I think that given more time, I would have liked to create my own 3D models and produce a themed AR experience to immerse myself more with AR.
Conclusion
Augmented Reality is an incredibly useful tool to explore many different possibilities to create projects catered to users. In this specific example, this workshop allowed me to bring a 3D model to life which is useful for designers to see how their models would look in real life.
As a person who enjoys a story-driven experience, I can imagine using AR to create an immersive narrative. For example, I think that it would be fun to experiment with creating models for a storybook and having it come to life when scanning the book so it would look like the characters are popping out of the book similar to a pop-up book, but with AR.
